Caleb Ellison-Dysart is a nîhithaw (Cree) artist living on Coast Salish territories. His family comes from O-Pipon-Na-Piwin Cree Nation & Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation in Northern Manitoba, and the Twin Cities of Minnesota. He specializes in 3D Animation, Murals, Design & Illustration. His process-driven work celebrates Cree culture and incorporates stories about physical and spiritual connections to land. His style draws on traditional forms while adding his own abstract interpretation to demonstrate individual Indigenous agency.
"The act of putting oneself into conversations with tradition is a powerful one. I hope my work can inspire others to do the same because that’s what it takes to create an Indigenous future - for Indigenous people to visualize themselves in a world where they were not part of the plan. My goal is to respectfully adapt old styles and stories, push forward teachings about the world and each other, and to be true to myself."
