Gashki-ewizi Gift Set (Necklace)
This gift set features a shell necklace and a matching pouch with a stylized Native American star quilt design and the Ojibwe word for s/he accomplishes, or succeeds.
The tiered necklace features three layers of long dentalium shells interspersed with large faceted beads. Designed by Beyond Buckskin owner Jessica R. Metcalfe (Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and made in the Turtle Mountains of North Dakota, this necklace blends the natural imperfections of shells with the glamour of faceted sparkling beads.
Prior to European contact, dentalium shells were used as currency in inter-tribal exchange networks, and many Native American women proudly wore dentalium jewelry to display the wealth and status of their families. Through the meanings that the shells hold, we hope to share our traditions with the world: we decorate the body beautifully to please the spirit world and to walk in beauty and harmony with the environment around us.
The medium pouch measures 6"x7" with a zip closure and interior pockets. Works great for make up, art supplies, and other necessities. Durable canvas-like exterior and a 50/50 poly-cotton black interior lining. Machine washable. This set makes the perfect gift for yourself or someone special. Ships from the US.
